F A Q s

Q: How long does it take to get my exam results?

A: Multiple choice exams provide instant results at the end of the exam. Written answer exams such as the City & Guilds 2391 require marking by the awarding body, this usually takes up to six weeks

Q: If I fail an exam do I have to sit the course again?

A: No. However you will need to address if there are any weak areas that need strengthening before taking the exam again. Dependant upon the examination, a re-sit can normally be arranged to take place within 1 week. City & Guilds written exams such as the 2391 have nationally set dates, therefore the next set date becomes your re-sit date.

Q: Will I be a qualified electrician able to carry out electrical installations after I complete any training provided by you?

A: Once you have completed the relevant electrical courses, you will have the qualifications to be a Domestic Electrical Installer. If you are already involved in the industry and you are successful in passing the appropriate accredited exams then you may be able to start installing straight away. If you have little or no electrical installation experience, we would recommend that you seek further advice from a recognised scheme provider or enrolment body prior to any work that you propose to do.

Q: Will I automatically become registered with one of the Government approved competent persons schemes for 'part P' on completion of the course?

A: No. Our courses provide the qualifications required to allow you to register. It will be up to you to join a scheme of your choice if you want to carry out notifiable electrical work in domestic premises. We will offer advice on which competent persons scheme is best suited to you.

Q: Do you provide hand tools and testing equipment for the practical sessions?

A: Yes. We provide hand tools and testers. If you have your own test equipment with an up to date calibration certificate, you are encouraged to bring this along with you to familiarise yourself with your own instrument.

Q: I am a mature student, will this be like going back to school for me?

A: No. Most of our learners are mature students updating their knowledge to current standards. All our courses are very informal and everybody is made to feel welcome in the centre.
